Uterine Fibroids

Are non-cancerous growths of the muscle tissue of the uterus.  Fibroids can range in number and size, from a single growth to multiple growths, and from very small to large. Many women who have fibroids do not have any symptoms. In those that do, symptoms can be influenced by the location, size and number of fibroids.  Many women experience symptomatic fibroids by age 50.

What is Uterine Fibroid Embolization?

Mobile Vascular Physicians's vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists are leaders in Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE).

Unlike a hysterectomy, which removes the entire uterus, Mobile Vascular Physicians offers a minimally invasive procedure called Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE). This image guided procedure has quicker recovery times, fewer risks and complications, and can be done outpatient.

UFE cuts off the blood supply to the uterine fibroid. When there is no blood supply, the fibroid reduces in size and symptoms.

How Long is the UFE Procedure?

The procedure takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Patients then spend approximately 1.5 – 2 hours in the recovery room while closely monitored by our Recovery Room Nurse.
